Total length about 1m and over 3kg. Elongated body with short back legs. The tail is about half the total length with a broad black tassel of long hair. Long - dark grey - coarse hair which is longer towards the hindquarters. Usually near water and in thickets. Diurnal. Lives in pairs of family parties - foraging for mice - birds - eggs - frogs - reptiles and insects. When moving together they move in caravan fashion - nose to tail. Rare in the reserve but has been seen within the main entrance.
