An erect shrub with its ascending branches covered with more than one leaf type as the specific name 'heterophylla' implies. The leaves of the annual flowering shoot are hardly dissected compared with those towards the base of the plant. The flower-heads are solitary, terminal and pedunculate with visible involucral bracts.
