A sturdy, erect-stemmed shrub growing to 1.2m from a fire-resistant rootstock. Leaves have thickened margins and flowerheads have closely packed pink to brown fringed involucral bracts. The somewhat small heads of the narrow-leaved Hermanus form are often light yellow with dark beards.
