Shrublet up to 80cm. Leaves are hairy and densely packed, giving a silky look to the stem; striking flower heads with extremely sticky, glossy, tubular corollas, vivid red shading into bright green at swollen tips.
After: Francis Masson (1741-1805), Scottish gardener, plant collector for Kew Gardens; he discovered more than 1 700 species on his travels in South Africa.
