Erect, sparse, slender shrublet up to 60cm with longish slender branches. Closely set leaves, toothed on margins. Slightly sticky flowers are covered with small stiff hairs and are red to purple with purplish lobes at the end of the tubular corolla; anthers are awned but also have a 'chin'.
Latin: cristatus = comblike; referring to teeth along leaf margins.
