Rhizomatous geophyte up to 1.5m. Stem rounded with short branches of lateral flower clusters. Leaves elliptical, 2-5mm wide, rigid. Flowers sessile; spathes and bracts ovate, rusty becoming lacerate.

Flowers 11 months after fire.
