Densely tufted perennial grass up tp 90cm, with many thin culms; culms usually unbranched with dark nodes. Leaves linear up to 30cm long and 3mm wide. Spikelets in a congedted panicle 20-30mm long; lower glume awned.

Invasive grass with little grazing value, but plays an important role in stabilizing soil.
