Slender lax perennial up to 40cm with sprawling branches from a woody base. Needle-like leaves. Slender-stalked pink or mauve flowers are borne in crowded more or less flat-topped terminal clusters, two large side sepal lobes almost conceal the petals and purple crest within.
Latin: poly = much, gala = milk: some European species supposedly increased the milk yield in cows, hence common name Clustered Milk Maker
