A tuberous rooted sprawling shrub up to 40cm. The leaves are bipinnatifidly divided, the margins of the segments are dentate; the umbel-like inflorescence bears up to 6 largish, very striking flowers, colour varies from cream to pale yellow to pink with beetroot-red streaks on the two much larger upper petals; 7 fertile stamens are present.
This species was apparently first collected in an urban area, hence species name suburbanum.
