Decumbent aromatic plant, may be annual or biennial. Stems are hairy and can be long and trailing. Leaves are often 3-lobed and have rather rigid hairs; stipules are hirsute and triangular, up to 5mm long. Striking pink flowers with wine-red markings are small and borne in umbels of 3-8 flowers; 5 fertile stamens are present; pollen is orange. Plants germinate in profusion, especially after fire; they are fast growing and with their trailing stems can cover large areas.
