Low growing shrub to 30cm; procumbent branches are covered with long, soft hairs. Leaves are cordate in outline, usually 3-lobed with round-toothed margins, velvety and tending to grey in colour; the very striking 4-petalled, white to pale-pink flowers have beetroot coloured veins on the two larger upper petals; 5 fertile stamens are present.
Latin: candicans = hoary or woolly: referring to velvety leaves.
