Straggling, densely leafy, silvery shrublet. Leaves overlapping, oblong, recurved, hooked at tips, covered with silvery-silky hairs; flowerhead solitary, shiny white or pink-tinged, without rays; what appear to be rays are actually bracts, papery and everlasting.
Latin: retortus, twisted, bent back: referring to the shape of the leaf.
