Roughly glandular, tufted shrublet forming clumps up to 30cm. Leaves narrow, grass-like, toothed; flowerheads radiate, solitary, on elongated stalks, white rays with purple to copper on reverse and a purple disc of florets. Flowers more profusely after fire.
This genus produces 2 types of seed from the same flower; one adapted to wind dispersal, the other adapted to fall directly onto the soil surface beneath the plant.
This species differs from Dimorphotheca nudicaulis var. nudicaulis in having narrow, grass-like leaves.
Latin: gramen = grass, folium = leaf; referring to the grass-like leaves of this species.
