Erect, tufted perennial, with an unbranched stem, up to 1.5m. Leaves mostly radical (arising from underground), oblanceolate, glabrescent, but margins and veins roughly hairy, 3-7 net-veined from base. Flowerhead discoid, many in branched corymbs, (flat-topped inflorescence, in which flowers arise at at different positions but all reach the same level), pale yellow or brownish; florets15-30; ovary glabrous.
