Description

The largest of the predatory cats in this area - though smaller than leopards further north. Total length of males 1 -75m - weight about 31kg. Females are smaller. Background colour can vary from off-white to golden - with white underparts. The patterns of black spots also vary - being large on the legs - underparts and tail - small on the head and forming rosettes on the back and flanks. Mainly nocturnal - solitary and secretive - preferring the mountainous areas. It preys on birds and any mammals from rodents to medium-sized antelope. The reserve probably forms only a small part of its home range.
