Description

Dioecious, rhizomatous perennial. Large clumps occur occasionally in mountain fynbos, at least up to 1.5m in height.

Culm: Unbranched and at least 1.25mm in diameter. Sheaths drop off leaving small distinct dark abscission rings at the nodes along the culm.

Flowerhead: Male and female flowerheads are usually similar. The flowers are concealed by large spathes which are variegated with golden margins much paler than the body. Male spathes are often persistent.

Distribution: From Worcester to the Cape Peninsula and to Uniondale.

Note: Latin: racemus = raceme, -osus = indicates abundance.

Habitat

Steep rocky slopes in the mountains, 600-1800m.
