Erect shrublet up to 1m. Leaves are grey-green forming a dense cover on branches. Flowers are large, tubular, sulphur yellow, stalkless, on hairy stems; awned anthers.

In danger of extinction by too frequent mountain fires. If undisturbed by fire it will grow to 1.8m

Named in honour of Ernest Edward Galpin, (1858-1943), South African botanist and banker, called 'prince of collectors' by General Jan Smuts. Contributed 16 000 sheets of specimens to the National Herbarium.
